Katrina Rush is Associate Paintings Conservator at the Menil Collection in Houston, Texas. Ms. Rush, who studied chemistry and studio art, graduated Summa Cum Laude and with distinction from Boston’s Emmanuel College and received a master’s degree in art conservation and certificate of advanced study from Buffalo State, The State University of New York. During her graduate studies, Rush gained experience treating modern and contemporary paintings through collaborative conservation projects with the Albright Knox Art Gallery and a 12-month internship in paintings conservation at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, DC. Skilled in major and minor treatment techniques for paintings, Rush has over ten years’ experience caring for Modern and Contemporary paintings. She has also published multiple scholarly papers and coordinated two major symposia related to technical research on artists’ materials and methods, including: "Henri Rousseau: Paint + Process" (2010) and “Magritte: Beyond the Image, Beneath the Paint” (2014). Rush is trained in Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Response for collections and is a steering committee member for the Texas Collections Emergency Response Alliance (TX-CERA), a volunteer organization dedicated to disaster planning and response and recovery for Texas cultural, heritage, historic sites and special collections. Rush obtained Professional Associate status in 2014 and has been an active member of the national conservation community, having served on the board of the Paintings Specialty Group from 2011 to 2016.
