Christine Romano is a joint paintings conservation fellow with the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture (NMAAHC) and the Museum Conservation Institute (MCI). She received her MA and C.A.S. in Art Conservation from Buffalo State, NY in 2016. Christine completed her graduate training at MCI, the Barnes Foundation, and the Phillips Collection. Following graduation she worked for a year in a private practice before joining the Smithsonian as a fellow in the fall of 2017. Over the past year, she has participated in the study, treatment, and preventive care of paintings in the NMAAHC collection with a focus on modern and contemporary works. She is currently pursuing research on zinc soap-related deterioration in modern oil paintings in conjunction with conservators and scientists at MCI. Christine currently serves as Vice Chair on the AIC Sustainability Committee.
